glide

the robert noyce google doodle

robert noyce, a co-inventor of the integrated circuit, was honored with a google doodle last week on what would have been his 87th birthday.

Robert Noyce, honored with a Google Doodleintel founder robert noyce

this article reports that when noyce was a boy in burlington, iowa he

hooked a box kite to the back bumper of a neighbor’s car and, with the neighbor driving, managed to glide, getting the contraption up to 12 feet in the air.

would u like to glide through the air in a box kite tied to a car bumper?

glide means to move without effort or resistance.

the christmas carol jingle bell rock has a good example in the chorus:

jingle bell time is a swell time to go gliding in a one horse sleigh

the horse pulls and the sleigh glides over the snow

in this vid from 2 1/2 men, alan steals the show from his mom and around :45 sings the line

the song come fly with me contains the line

once i get you up there where the air is rarified, we’ll just glide, starry-eyed

in this vid, luis miguel sings the song for frank sinatra‘s 80th birthday.  he sings with a video recording of sinatra who made the song famous.

a biographical video about michael jordan also titled come fly with me was released in 1989 but this youtube vid features clyde “the glide” drexler gliding over jordan for a dunk in the 1992 nba finals

what is this activity called?         post the answer if u know

I know the answer, the activity is called “gliding” but i don’t know what “starry-eyed” means

  2. richyrocks says:

yes paco! gliding or hang-gliding is the activity in the picture.

starry-eyed means that you are not thinking realistically. in “come fly with me” it’s because of romance.
